Vice President Kashim Shettima delivered a strong message at the UN Leaders’ Climate Summit of the ongoing #COP30 in Belem, Brazil that captures the very pressing need for a renewed global commitment to climate action.

Flooding, drought, hurricanes, and other natural disasters that we witness every day across the world with their devastating impacts on human lives are also distress alerts, cries for help, by the planet Earth that we live in, for healing, preservation, and restoration.

Most natural disasters are climate-related. We need to address climate change holistically and collectively to build a resilient future for ourselves and a safer tomorrow for the generations to come.

As VP Shettima rightly charged, governments need to move beyond pledging to performance, and from dialogue and ambition to taking reasonable action in tackling climate change and its attendant natural disasters.

Together with other top government officials in the Nigerian delegation led by the Vice President, we are exploring partnerships focusing on sustainable development, climate financing, on the margins of the event.
